India sees lowest single day COVID rise with 60,471 cases since 76 days

New Delhi: India on Tuesday recorded 60,471 new cases of the novel coronavirus, the lowest single-day COVID rise since March 30, along with a slight decline in deaths with 2726 case reported.
According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry, the number of active cases stayed below 10 lakh for the second day in a row.
The total cases of COVID-19 in India have now mounted to 2,95,70,881 with 9,13,378 active cases, the data showed.
The country saw a total of 1,17,525 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery to 2,82,80,472. The total death toll in the country is now at 3,77,031. A total of 25,90,44,072 people have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19 in India.
Maharashtra, which has the highest overall caseload in the country, on Monday recorded 8,129 cases, the lowest daily rise in over 3 months.
With improvement in the Covid-19 situation, many states/UTs have begun the process of unlocking. Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra are among the major states where gradual unlocking has started amid Covid restrictions.
States like Haryana, Karnataka have eased lockdown restrictions and allowed more activities in their states. More states/UTs are looking to open up in the coming days as cases continue to fall.
India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.
India crossed the grim milestone of 2 crores on May 4.
Globally, the coronavirus disease has infected over 17.62 crore people and killed more than 38.08 lakh since the pandemic broke out in December 2019, according to Johns Hopkins University.
