India reports over 2.09 lakh COVID-19 cases, 959 deaths

India on Monday recorded 2.09 lakh new Covid cases, 10% lower than yesterday, according to Union health ministry's latest database.

A massive drop in the number of daily Covid-19 cases has been recorded over the past few days. According to the health ministry data, India has recorded a drop of over 1 lakh daily Covid-19 cases in the past week or so.

The country's active caseload currently stands at 18,31,268, 4.43% of the total Covid infections.

The death count climbed to 4,95,050 with 959 Covid-related deaths. Kerala added 374 deaths as backlog to today's count.

The weekly and daily positivity rates are 15.77 and 15.75 percent respectively. The daily and weekly positivity rates were at 14.5 per cent and 16.4 per cent respectively on Sunday.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease increased to 3,89,76,122, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.20 per cent, the ministry said. After the Sunday update, the total number of infections stands at 4,13,02,440, it said.

Meanwhile, the cumulative number of anti-Covid vaccine doses administered in the country so far has crossed 166.03 crore. India surpassed the one-crore mark in the number of cases on December 19, 2020, and two crore on May 4 and three crore on June 23 last year.

Those in the age group of 15-18 will start receiving their second dose of Covid vaccine from today. Covaxin is the only vaccine option available to those in the 15-18 age bracket.
