New Delhi : Testing fewer than twenty thousand new cases of covid 19 in the past 24 hours meant India is on a hopeful trajectory.

This is amid the fears of the new variant of the virus looming the nation which however is playing out within the bounds.

India is getting ready to roll out mass vaccination soon, following the approval of two vaccines.

Nearly 30 crore people will receive shots in the first phase of the drive: it will include one crore healthcare workers.

Alongside, 2 crore front-line and essential workers and 27 crore elderly, mostly above the age of 50 years with comorbidities will roll up their sleeves.

New cases climbed down to 18,087 taking overall cases to 1,03,74,932, official data showed.

The death toll touched 1,50,114, adding 264 more, while 99,97,272 have recovered.

Currently, there are 2,27,546 active cases. The recovery rate stands at 96.36 per cent while the fatality rate is 1.45 as per cent.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state till date. Over 84 per cent of the daily new cases are being reported by 10 states -- Kerala, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
