India logs 3,688 new Covid cases, Delhi continues to see spike in infections
text_fieldsNew Delhi: India has reported 3,688 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of infections in the country since the pandemic started to 4,30,75,864.
According to the Union Health Ministry, the active cases increased to 18,684, with 883 new active cases in a 24-hour time span.
The country also reported 50 covid-related deaths today, bringing the total number of Covid fatalities to 5,23,803.
The top five states which have registered maximum cases are Delhi with 1,607 cases, followed by Haryana with 624 cases, Kerala with 412 cases, Uttar Pradesh with 293 cases, and Maharashtra with 148 cases.
Around 83.61 per cent of the new cases are reported from these five states, with Delhi alone responsible for 43.57 per cent of the new cases.
The active cases comprise 0.04 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded as 98.74 percent, the ministry said.
A total of 2,755 recoveries have been recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the count to 4,25,33,377. The daily positivity rate is at 0.74 percent while the weekly positivity rate is at 0.66 percent.
According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Saturday (April 30), the country saw a total of 2,755 discharges in the last 24 hours.
A total of 83.74 crore tests have been conducted so far, with 4,96,640 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 83,74,42,023 samples have been tested up to April 29 for COVID-19. Of these 4,96,640 samples were tested on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Drugs Controller General of India's (DCGI) subject expert committee on Friday (April 29) sought more data from Pune based Serum Institute of India (SII) on the Covovax vaccine for the age group of 7-12 years.
"SEC has sought more data for Covovax vaccine for 7-12 years age group after a meeting took place in the evening today," said sources to news agency ANI.
