India, Bangladesh agree to stamp out terrorism in the region

Dhaka: During their meeting, newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina pledged to work together to restrict terrorism, PTI reported.
The 1994-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, Verma, met the PM a month after presenting his credentials to Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid on October 27.
Meeting PM Hasina at her official Ganabhaban residence, Verma said, "India has a policy for neighbouring countries. But Bangladesh gets the highest priority. Bangladesh always gets priority in any case," PM's office quoted.
Verma underlined that Bangladesh is a good friend of India and added that together, the countries would work on curbing terrorism in the region.
PM Hasina said on the same line that Bangladesh has vowed not to allow terrorists to use its soil.
"(The ruling) Awami League never ever pampers terrorism, and it never allows the use of Bangladesh soil for the purpose," she said, adding that terrorism has no religion or boundaries.
The PM further said that India and Bangladesh could resolve all the outstanding issues between them, including the Teesta river water sharing, through dialogue.
Verma told Hasina that bilateral trade and connectivity increased remarkably in recent times, while the prime minister said she expects Indian business people to invest in Bangladesh's 100 economic zones.
Hasina and Verma also discussed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) for facilitating economic relations between the two countries.
