India approves emergency use of Russian vaccine Sputnik V
text_fieldsAs the country faces a massive surge in cases in its second wave and amid reports of vaccine shortages from several states, emergency use authorisation Russian vaccine Sputnik V has been recommended ,says reports on Monday.
According to sources cited by news agency ANI, the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) approved Dr Redy's application for emergency use authorisation to the vaccine.The vaccine has been reported to have an efficacy of 91.6 percent.
Sputnik V, developed by the Gamaleya National Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, is the world's first registered COVID-19 vaccine based on the human adenoviral vector platform.
Sputnik V will be third vaccine to be available in India against corona virus after Bharat Biotech's Covaxin and Serum Institute of India's Covishield.
