New Delhi: Central intelligence agencies are on alert after the Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) threatened suicide attacks in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai, and Delhi amid a brewing controversy over the blasphemous remarks made by BJP leaders on Prophet Muhammad.

In a threat letter dated June 6, AQIS warned that saffron terrorists should now await their end in Delhi and Bombay and UP and Gujarat.

After receiving the threat letter, the central agencies first verified it and then asked all state police forces concerned to be on high alert.

The letter remarked that the propagators and flag bearers of Hindutva insulted Prophet Muhammad and his noble and pure wife, Sayyidah Ayesha bint Abu Bakr as Siddeeq in the vilest and evil manner on an Indian TV channel.

The letter claimed that the "hearts of Muslims all over the world are bleeding and are filled with feelings of revenge and retribution."

It adds, "We warn every audacious and impudent foul mouth of the world, especially the Hindutva terrorists occupying India, that we should fight for the dignity of our Prophet.

"We should urge others to fight and die for the honour of the Prophet, we should kill those who affront our Prophet, and we should bind explosives with our bodies and the bodies of our children to blow away the ranks of those who dare to dishonour our Prophet."

The group is believed to have members in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar, and has carried out attacks against atheists and doctors.

The controversial remarks by BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal snowballed into global outrage after West Asia nations took note of the issue and summoned Indian envoys to protest. India's foreign ministry clarified that the offensive tweets and comments did not in any way reflect the government's views.
