Darbhanga/Bihar: Following impersonation in a competitive exam in Bihar, police arrested 12 people from various centres in the Darbhanga district. The arrestees, including two women, appeared for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET)-2024 on behalf of other candidates, PTI reported.

Darbhanga SSP Jagunath Reddy told reporters on Sunday, "Nine arrests were made from different centres under Laheriasarai police station's jurisdiction, while two were apprehended from a centre under Sadar police station, and one person was arrested from a centre under Bahadurpur police station."

The impersonation was detected through biometric fingerprint scans of candidates at the examination centres, police said.

Police took action based on complaints filed by invigilators and administrators. Cases have been registered against the imposters, and their interrogation is ongoing. Police also gather information about genuine candidates.

Sources said police are also investigating whether the arrested are linked to any interstate cheating syndicate.

The CTET is conducted annually on a national level for candidates seeking teaching positions in the government sector.

Last month, Bihar Police's Economic Offences Unit (EOU) said that they had arrested five members of a "solver gang" involved in the NEET-UG paper leak case. One of them had received a PDF file of the solved question paper of the exam on his phone a day before the exam, The Indian Express (TIE) reported.

The gang member with the solved paper was identified as Baldev Kumar, alias Chintu. He is among five people EOU arrested from Jharkhand.EOU narrowed their probe to the five arrestees on the basis of intelligence inputs and technical investigation, the Bihar Police agency said in a statement. The agency found partially burnt papers from Learn Boys Hostel and Play School at Nandlal Chapra of Ramakrishna Nagar police station area of Patna.
