He is believed to have been killed, skinned and chopped up in an apartment before disposing of in several plastic packets in the city, NDTV reported.
As a breakthrough in the case, the West Bengal CID (Criminal Investigation Department) arrested an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh, identified as Jihad Hawladar, who lived in Mumbai.
CID sources reportedly said that Jihad Hawladar had confessed to his involvement in the crime that had taken place in an apartment in New Town, Kolkata.
Also, sleuths found bloodstains inside the apartment and recovered several plastic bags that were used to dump the body parts.
Giving signs of meticulous plan behind the crime, Hawladar reportedly disclosed that the mastermind was Akhtaruzzaman, a US citizen of Bangladeshi origin.
After Akhtaruzzaman gave orders, Hawladar and four other Bangladeshi nationals smothered and killed the MP at the New Town apartment.
Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Wednesday said three people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Anwarul Azim Anar.
Meanwhile, circumstantial evidence suggests the MP was strangled and then cut up into several pieces, police claimed.
After killing the MP the group set to skinning, removing flesh and mincing the flesh to obliterate identification, Hawladar allegedly told cops.
Later they packed body parts into plastic bags, after cutting bones into small pieces.
These packets were disposed of across Kolkata, the suspect allegedly said.
