New Delhi: Nearly 600 runners from across various commands of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Indian Army participated in an 88-hour-long “Op Sindoor Commemorative Run” in New Delhi to honour a landmark chapter in the IAF’s operational history, officials said on Monday.

The event, held from May 7 to May 10, marked the first anniversary of the Indian Air Force’s 88 hours of successful air operations under Operation Sindoor, which showcased the force’s capability to carry out decisive and precise strikes.

Participants included around 600 runners drawn from different commands of the Indian Air Force and the Army. The commemorative run began on May 7 at 1.05 a.m. from India Gate and was flagged off by the Air Officer in Charge Administration (AOA). It concluded on May 10 at 5 p.m. at Air Force Station New Delhi (AFND), where it was flagged in by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS).

Organised as a continuous relay run lasting 88 hours, the event also witnessed active support from civil authorities. Civilian volunteers joined the run alongside defence personnel, according to an official statement.

The route covered several prominent landmarks across the national capital, including India Gate, Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh Marg, Air Headquarters Vayu Bhawan, Nehru Park and New Moti Bagh Road, before concluding at Air Force Station New Delhi.

Officials said the objective of the run was to strengthen esprit de corps among IAF personnel while also enhancing public outreach and increasing visibility of the Indian Defence Forces.

“The successful conduct of the ‘Op Sindoor Commemorative Run’ was not only a tribute to a significant milestone in the Indian Air Force’s operational history, but also a testament to excellent teamwork achieved through public engagement, showcasing the ethos of the IAF,” the official statement said.

As part of the associated events, the Air Force Jazz Band also delivered a live performance at Nehru Park on Sunday between 6.30 a.m. and 8 a.m.
