New Delhi: Hema Malini, BJP MP came hard on Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Jayant Chaudhary with a minimal retort after he used her name to target the BJP during an election campaign in Uttar Pradesh, NDTV reported.

The RLD leader had said that he wouldn't want to be Hema Malini, to which she retorted back, saying that he could not.

She said that it was challenging to be Hema Malini. She had worked so hard to become the 'Dream Girl'. Jayant Chaudhari was telling the truth that he cannot become 'Hema Malini', she added.

But Jayant later said that he had not meant to ridicule Hema Malini.

Jayant's RLD is with Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party to fight the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. The state is heading to its polls first phase on Thursday. RLD had won one seat in Mathura, where Hema Malini is the Lok Sabha MP, in the 2017 elections.

Jayant faced criticism for the unwarranted mention of Hema Malini in his comments. He also accused BJP Minister Amit Shah of persuading one of the RLD leaders to leave and join BJP after he himself had spurned multiple BJP advancements.

In his speech, he asked why BJP was appeasing him. He wondered what BJP has done for the people or the seven farmers (of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident) in particular. Why is Ajay Mishra continuing a minister, he asked.

Uttar Pradesh elections will start on February 10 and end on March 7 through seven phases. Counting is scheduled for March 10.
