Hathras gang rape case: Plea in SC seeks CBI probe
text_fieldsNew Delhi: A plea filed by social activist Satyama Dubey, before the Supreme Court has sought investigation into the Hathras rape and murder of a 19 year-old Dalit youth allegedly by four upper-caste men by either the Central Bureau of Investigation or a Special Investigation Team.
The plea further has sough the transfer of the matter from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi alleging failure of the State Government to take action against the accused.
A 19 year old Dalit youth was abducted and then gangraped by four upper-caste men who then subjected her to brutal torture by breaking her spines and cut off her tongue.
On Tuesday, the victim succumbed to the injuries and died at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital. Her body was not handed over to the police and was cremated by the police in the middle of the night.
It is alleged that the victim's family and relatives were locked up in their homes, as cops whisked away the body, without allowing them a last look.
The developments have rocked the country and have instigated protests. Cities across the country witnessed protests against the rape and the culpability of the UP government in doing injustice to the victim's family.
