Ahmedabad: Gujarat has not received even a single rupee under the Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) over the past five financial years, according to official data.

Data tabled in the Rajya Sabha shows that the amount of funds allocated to Gujarat under the scheme was recorded as ‘zero’ for every financial year from 2021-22 to 2025-26. The figures come at a time when substantial funds have been allocated to several other states for the welfare of minority communities and infrastructure development.

According to the Ministry of Minority Affairs, funds are not allocated based on a predetermined quota. Instead, allocations are made after assessing the suitability of project proposals submitted by the states and their compliance with the prescribed conditions.

However, while states including Assam, Karnataka, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh received substantial funds during the five-year period, Gujarat received no allocation.

The disparity is also reflected in the number of projects completed under the scheme. Since its launch, more than 8.59 lakh (859,972) project units have been completed across the country, while Gujarat accounted for only 82 completed units.

The figure represents just 0.01 per cent of the national total, according to the data. Gujarat lags far behind states such as West Bengal, which recorded 3.44 lakh completed units, Uttar Pradesh with 2.01 lakh and Assam with 1.09 lakh, highlighting a significant disparity in the implementation of the scheme.
