Gandhinagar: The inaugural 'Shri Ram Katha' at Gujarat Lok Bhavan began on Sunday, launching a week-long religious and cultural programme that will run until June 28 under the guidance of Governor Acharya Devvrat.

The opening featured storyteller Acharya Kuldeep Maharaj, who outlined the philosophical significance of the Ram Katha and the virtues exemplified by Lord Ram. Governor Devvrat said the Ramayana offers practical lessons for daily life and described Lord Ram as an ideal son, brother, husband and ruler committed to public welfare.

The Ramayana is not only about devotion but “an art of living,” the Governor said, urging attendees to internalise its teachings to reduce human suffering and foster personal development. He praised Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel for his public service and cited recent gestures — travelling by train, spending a night at a village school and sharing a meal with a Scheduled Caste family — as examples of simplicity and public connect.

Governor Devvrat welcomed Acharya Kuldeep Maharaj and lauded his family’s role in promoting Indian cultural and Vedic traditions, calling the ongoing Katha a “nectar-like” experience for participants.

Those present included Gujarat State Yog Board Chairman Sheeshpal Rajput, MLA Babu Patel, former minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Gujarat Vidyapith Vice-Chancellor Harshad Patel, senior officials and a large turnout of citizens.
