Goa CM assures investigation after Minister resigns due to sexual exploitation allegations
text_fieldsGoa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that the state government will conduct an investigation into the involvement of BJP legislator and former urban development minister Milind Naik in a sexual exploitation case. Naik resigned from his position as minister on Wednesday after meeting with the chief minister in Panaji. Sawant informed that Naik has resigned for a 'free and fair investigation into the case.
The cabinet position will now remain vacant and there shall be no fresh induction. Instead, the CM would be handling all of the former minister's portfolios.
Girish Chodankar, the Goa Congress chief, had accused Naik of being involved in the sexual exploitation of a woman, misusing his power as a cabinet member. Chodankar has also demanded that the police initiate a probe into the allegations against Milind Naik.
State Congress vice president Sankalp Amonkar also filed a police complaint against Naik. He further released an alleged audio conversation between the victim and the MLA.
"I have accepted the resignation and also sent it to the governor. Whatever evidence the Congress has produced that we will investigate," the Chief Minister said. The CM added that Naik told him that he will fight the case at a personal level.
