Achuthapuram: Toxic gas leak at an apparel making facility in Adhra Pradesh's Atchutapuram district left 87 people hospitalised, none of them are in serious condition, reports say.

After inhaling the poisonous gas at Quantum Seeds, a unit in Brandix Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Women workers fell unconscious from vomiting and nausea, requiring some of them to be hospitalised.

Since victims are in stable condition, no causalities have been reported yet, according to India Today.

Police were waiting for APPCB officials to arrive and take stock of the situation and people are barred from entering the premises.

The samples collected by the pollution control board will be sent to Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) in Secunderabad for examination.

Andhra Pradesh Industries Minister Gudivada Amarnath has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. The minister added that the samples were sent to ICMR for further inquiry.

" It remains to be determined whether it was a random or a deliberate act," Amarnath was quoted as saying.

The Brandix SEZ employs mostly women workers in their thousands in the garment manufacturing units.
