New Delhi: FIR has been filed against T.M. Anbarasan, the Tamil Nadu government's minister of rural industries, for allegedly threatening Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 9 during his speech in Chennai.

In a short video clip of the DMK Minister's speech that is taking rounds on social media, he is heard saying that Prime Minister Modi cannot eradicate the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. The Minister is heard saying, “We have seen many Prime Ministers. We haven't seen a PM who spoke so cheaply like this. He said he will eradicate the DMK. Will you eradicate it? Let me tell you one thing, the DMK is not an ordinary party. It was built with the life sacrifices of many. The DMK was built by shedding blood. Those who said DMK would be eradicated perished. DMK will stand strong. Mind it. You may show elsewhere, I am being soft because I am a Minister. Else I will tear you apart into pieces.”

The FIR was filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 153, 268, 503, 505, and 506 at Parliament Street police station on Wednesday (March 13) in response to a complaint from Supreme Court lawyer Satya Ranjan Swain. "The threatening statement made by TM Anbarasan, is not only alarming and poses a significant risk to the safety and security of our Prime Minister but is also shameful and has been deliberately made to stir the peace and stability of our nation and evoke violence," the FIR said.

The complainant also stated that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on May 21, 1991, during the reign of the DMK in Tamil Nadu, and that this occurred during election time. “In this background, considering the gravity of the situation and the potential threat posed to the Prime Minister’s life, you are requested to initiate immediate legal action against the person named herein and also the persons and entities who are complicit in sharing / endorsing/resharing / keeping in public domain the alleged video clippings on TV / social media and other platforms whose names may come to light during investigations,” he said.
