New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said fifty years ago the Congress guaranteed to remove poverty but it proved to be the biggest betrayal of the poor.

Visiting Ajmer and Pushkar as part of the BJP’s Jan Sampark Abhiyan in Rajasthan, PM Modi questioned the Congress government’s ‘five guarantees for Karnataka’.

‘But are they fulfilling their guarantees? Their guarantees will leave the country bankrupt,’ he was quoted as saying.

With the polls are just five months away, Ashok Gehlot administration has introduced some welfare schemes including free electricity and cheaper cooking gas.

PM Modi was apparently targeting these freebies comparing them to what he said the Congress’s promise fifty years ago to remove poverty.

The prime minister alleged that keeping the poor deprived has been a policy of the Congress’, adding that the people of Rajasthan also suffered a lot from it.

Referring to the in-fight among the top Congress leadership in the state, Modi said Rajasthan got nothing but a government whose chief minister and MLAs fight among themselves.

The feud between Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot often spills out to the media, embarrassing the central leadership of the party, which remains clueless as to how to tame both leaders.

Despite a show of unity expedited by the Congress leadership on Monday, Sachin Pilot has taken a potshot at Gehlot again with a fresh ultimatum to act against previous Vasundhara Raje-led BJP government over corruption.

During his fourth visit to the state, which marked nine years of BJP administration at Centre, Modi said his government is dedicated to the service of the people.

He read out a list of schemes that the government has brought in the nation.

Before the BJP 2014, people were on the street protesting against corruption, and there were terror attacks even as the Congress governed the nation by remote control, he said.

He further questioned the congress saying that the corrupt system developed by the congress sucked the blood of the country.

To illustrate more he cited former Prime Miniter Rajiv Gandhi’s comment of only 15 paise out of 100 paise reached the poor.
