New Delhi: Opposition parties have to tick off Farooq Abdulla's name in their list of choice candidates.

The National Conference chief turned down their offer, saying he wants to take care of situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

The former J&K chief minister felt honoured to be proposed as the consenus candidate of the Opposition parties.

He stated that Jammu and Kashmir required his efforts to help it navigate "these uncertain times".

Farooq Abdullah said he had a lot more active politics ahead of him, and was looking forward to offering positive contribution to J&K and the nation, as a reason for withdrawing his name.

Only the other day, NCP chief Sharad Pawar turned down the Oppostion parties offer to contest in the presidential poll.

Both Farooq Abdullah and Sharad Pawar figured top in the opposition parties list of candidates.

17 Opposition parties huddled in Delhi for a meeting called by Mamata Banerjee days before to find a consensus candidate for president.

Mamata Banerjee reportedly suggested former West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi and Farooq Abdullah for the position.
