Chennai: After making a problematic statement at a protest organised by BJP here on Tuesday, Col. Pandian got booked by the Chennai Police, The News Minute reported.

Pandian had said that the Tamil Nadu government must not provoke ex-army servicemen since they are experts in planting bombs, shooting and fighting.

He spoke at the BJP-organised protest against a Darvida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) councillor and his son killing an army jawan named Prabbhu.

Though Pandian is yet to be arrested, the Triplicane police informed that the charges mounted on him were Sections 153 (provocation with the intent to cause riot), 501 (b) (intent to cause fear or alarm to the public), and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, The New Indian Express reported.

At the protest, Pandian said that the government must not test the patience of army officers and if they did, the law and order situation in the state would deteriorate.

Saying that he is saying what he said with love, he continued, “All our retired servicemen are experts in planting bombs, shooting, and fighting. We know all of these jobs well, but we do not intend on doing them,” TNM quoted him.

He then said that he was warning the Tamil Nadu government not to prompt army men to do such things. He called the DMK government a terrorist group and demanded capital punishment for those who killed the jawan.

Later, at the press conference where he was talking, Pandian had a fight with media people after they asked him why he made such a statement. When reporters asked whether he was threatening the state government, at first, he said it was a warning but later admitted that it was a threat.
