Belagavi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Congress "hates" Karnataka and insulting the state's leaders is part of the party's culture. He was speaking at Belagavi ahead of state elections.

He also accused the Gandhis of insulting the state's tallest leader Mallikarjun Kharge even though he is currently heading the party. PM Modi alleged that veteran politician Kharge is just a figurehead and "for name's sake" for Congress. He said that "everyone knows who holds the remote control."

"Congress leadership belonging to one family insulted party chief Kharge during its Raipur plenary. Mallikarjun Kharge has served the public in whatever way possible. I was disheartened to see how the most senior leader, the president of Congress, has been disrespected by them. The world knows who has the remote control".

The Prime Minister was in Belagavi to release the 13th instalment of over Rs 16,000 crore for farmers.

The Congress recently held its plenary session in Raipur, under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge. He spoke of the 2024 elections and declared that Congress is planning to work with like-minded parties to dethrone the BJP. In Meghalaya, he asked people to give Congress a chance.
