Elderly Muslim forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ for prasad

Uttar Pradesh: A video circulating on social media shows an elderly Muslim man being coerced into chanting "Jai Shri Ram" at a prasad distribution held at a BJP office in Dumariyaganj town.

The clip features Luvkush Ojha, whose Facebook profile lists him as associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party, telling the visibly uncomfortable senior citizen that he would receive prasad only if he chanted "Jai Shri Ram" and "Jai Shri Krishna." The man complies on camera.

The event took place on the occasion of the seventh Bada Mangal. The footage has sparked reactions online amid wider debate over the treatment of religious minorities in India.

The incident comes after Union Minister Kiren Rijiju defended India's record on minority safety, saying recent criticism portraying minorities — particularly Muslims — as unsafe in the country maligns India’s reputation. Rijiju argued that religious minorities from neighbouring countries seek refuge in India and said constitutional protections and freedoms are enjoyed by all citizens.
