Dr. Kafeel Khan on SC decision: Once again UP govt has failed

New Delhi: "Once again the Uttar Pradesh has failed as they tried to imprison me, put me behind bars..the day my brother is going to marry," said a cheerful Dr. Kafeel Khan responding to the Supreme Court's decision to not interfere with the Allahabd High Court order which quashed the detention of the paediatrician on Thursday.
In a video message recorded in front of the Supreme Court complex, the doctor continued to say:
"After four years, there was going to happen a celebration and on the same day they tried to put me behind the bar. Thanks to the judiciary, really thanks to 138 crore Indians and people across the globe..the people who prayed for me..they are continuously in support me for the past three and a half years. And I assure you, my determination, my devotion, to serve kids, children and I will continue to hold medical camps"
The young doctor's brother Fazeel Ahmed Khan is getting married on Thursday. Before the verdict Kafeel Khan had posted the invitation letter of the ceremony in Twitter and said:
"Happiness comes after four years. My mother and the whole family were very happy. But call it either coincidence, conspiracy or deliberately coincided, the Uttar Pradesh government is trying to send me to jail. All of you are requested to pray"
On Thursday, a Supreme Court bench led by the Chief Justice SA Bobde refused to interfere with Allahabad High Court order which quashed the detention of the doctor under the National Security Act.
"It seems to be a good order by High Court..We see no reason to interfere with High Court order," the CJI said while dismissing the state's plea.
The Yogi Adityanath-led government had moved the apex court, stating that in the impugned order, the Allahabad High Court had "substituted its subjective satisfaction" in lieu of the authorities view.
Dr. Kafeel was arrested from Mumbai in January 2020, over a speech given on December 13 at the Aligarh Muslim University against the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019. He was released only on September 2 after the Allahabad High Court order which said that the state failed to discharge its burden to establish that the said speech had such a deleterious effect on the public order.
