Chennai: The possibility of Kamal Haasan being nominated to the Rajya Sabha with DMK’s support is becoming clearer. This morning, DMK Minister Shekhar Babu met Kamal Haasan and held discussions regarding the allocation of a Rajya Sabha seat.
This move comes as per the directive of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. The DMK has decided to allocate one of the six Rajya Sabha seats that will fall vacant in July. Out of these six seats, the DMK is confident of securing at least four and possibly even five, according to their calculations.
Kamal Haasan is expected to contest. The DMK sees this as an opportunity to associate with Kamal Haasan’s political party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM). The DMK is also considering projecting Kamal Haasan as a star campaigner for the upcoming elections in the state.
Stalin believes that Kamal Haasan’s presence, as a leader who has consistently opposed the central government, will be advantageous. Previously, Kamal Haasan had expressed his interest in contesting from Coimbatore to DMK leaders.
Meanwhile, MNM spokespersons have claimed that the DMK had already promised Kamal Haasan a Rajya Sabha seat.
