text_fieldsNew Delhi: Delhi's per capita income surged by 14% to reach Rs 4,44,768 in 2023, marking the highest per capita income among all states and union territories in India, as per the Statistical Handbook released by the Delhi Government.
The government highlighted various contributing factors behind this growth, including initiatives focused on providing free power and water, enhancing education and healthcare facilities, and regularising unauthorised colonies.
Efforts in the public services sector were emphasised by the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Government. It highlighted significant strides in transportation, electricity, water, and social welfare. The government boasted Delhi's distinction as the first city in India to operate 1,300 electric buses, catering to approximately 4.1 million daily commuters.
In its report, the government detailed the achievement of ensuring round-the-clock power supply to all households, adding 100,000 new water connections, raising the minimum wage for labourers, and extending support to vulnerable groups. Welfare schemes were designed to aid the differently-abled, girls, the elderly, and those affected by the Covid pandemic, offering critical financial assistance.
These efforts were aimed at bolstering the overall welfare of the populace and contributed significantly to the substantial increase in Delhi's per capita income, positioning it as a frontrunner among Indian states.
