Delhi to install air purifiers in 10,000 classrooms to combat pollution
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood announced on Friday that the state government will install air purifiers in 10,000 classrooms as part of a phased initiative to ensure clean air for students.
Addressing a press conference, Sood emphasized the administration's commitment to tackling the capital's persistent pollution crisis through "long-term administrative measures" rather than temporary fixes.
"We want our children to study smart and also breathe smart air. In the first phase, air purifiers will be installed in 10,000 classrooms," Sood stated.
Taking a veiled dig at the previous Aam Aadmi Party government, Sood remarked, "We are not those who flaunt IIT degrees and do campaigns like 'Odd-Even' or 'Gaadi On, Gaadi Off'. We are tackling the issue of pollution through sustained measures.”.
Sood, who also holds the urban development portfolio, revealed further plans to improve air quality across the city. He announced that the Public Works Department (PWD) will utilize funds from the environment cess to procure mechanical road sweepers for every assembly constituency in Delhi to reduce dust pollution.
