New Delhi: The national capital (NCR) has registered a 5.33 per cent Covid-19 positivity rate since the previous day. The new update is 26 per cent higher than the previous one, NDTV reported.

NCR reported 461 new cases on Saturday and the death of two people in 24 hours. The new rise in cases has caused concern among authorities, especially in the case of school children. Experts have urged to increase vaccination among children below 12 who have co-morbidities.

PTI reported that a private school in NCR had directed parents not to send children to school after a student contracted the virus. NCR administration has instructed schools to close in parts, such as specific wings or classrooms if needed.

Meanwhile, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Saturday that positive cases might be rising, but there is no need for panic since hospitalisation remains low. Schools have been instructed to follow the government's standard operating procedure if a positive case is detected, he added.

In the meantime, India recorded 975 fresh cases pushing the cumulative count to 4,30,40,947. The country also reported four Covid-19 related deaths in 24 hours, and total fatalities reached 5,21,747, the Union Health Ministry updated.
