Delhi poll official seeks FIR over 36 false voter deletion forms in Mustafabad
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Election officials in Delhi's Mustafabad constituency have approached the police seeking an FIR against a booth-level agent accused of submitting false applications to remove voters' names from the electoral rolls, after an inquiry found that 36 of the 37 forms filed by the agent were invalid.
The complaint was lodged on Friday by the electoral registration officer of the northeastern Delhi constituency under the Representation of the People Act, 1950, for allegedly making false declarations in Form 7 applications.
Form 7 allows individuals to object to the inclusion of a name or request the removal of an existing voter from the electoral list.
The action followed a report by The Hindu on October 30, which found that several voters targeted for deletion were still residing at the addresses mentioned in the applications. The forms were reportedly submitted by a booth-level agent registered with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
District Election Officer Ajay Kumar told the newspaper that officials verified the allegations and found 36 of the 37 applications to be false.
The applications were submitted during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The development comes amid growing concerns over the misuse of Form 7 to target eligible voters during the revision exercise. On October 30, the Supreme Court also asked the Election Commission to take corrective measures against bulk submissions seeking voter deletions in Uttar Pradesh.
