Delhi on high alert as CJP plans protest near CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s residence
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Delhi has been placed under heightened security ahead of a protest planned by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Saturday, with additional forces deployed outside the residence of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
CISF personnel have been posted in larger numbers around the CEC’s residence, while local police have been asked to remain vigilant to prevent any untoward incident.
Security has also been intensified at major entry points to the capital, especially the Chilla Border connecting Noida and Mayur Vihar. Delhi Police, BSF personnel, additional forces and traffic police have been deployed there, and vehicles entering the city are being checked.
The Tikri Border, however, remained calm on Saturday morning. Vehicles were moving without disruption and no congestion was reported. More police and paramilitary personnel continued to reach the area to reinforce arrangements, while security agencies kept a close watch on vehicles moving in and out of the capital.
The Delhi Police had on Friday announced traffic diversions in central and New Delhi areas in view of the planned protest. Motorists heading towards railway stations, ISBTs or the airport through these areas were advised to allow extra travel time.
The restrictions came into effect from 6 a.m., depending on the situation at key junctions, including the Connaught Place Outer Circle–Barakhamba Road junction, Gol Dak Khana and Patel Chowk roundabouts, the Jai Singh Road–Ashoka Road junction, the RML Hospital roundabout and the Connaught Place Outer Circle–Sansad Marg junction.
The traffic police urged commuters to avoid unnecessary journeys and said restrictions would be adjusted according to the situation on the ground. People were advised to check the Delhi Traffic Police’s official website and social media handles for real-time updates and alternative routes.
