New Delhi: A 33-year-old man in Delhi's Gokalpuri Village died of burn injuries as he allegedly set himself ablaze after receiving a property confiscation notice on Saturday.

Kapil Kumar, who ran Vanshika Collections, allegedly killed himself after police arrived to serve him a court notice to confiscate his property, according to NDTV.

He was rushed to GTB Hospital by police, but succumbed to injuries at around 3.43 am, Delhi Police said.

"Some officials arrived in the Gokal Puri Police Station and produced the court order seeking police assistance for taking possession of one property in Gokal Puri village Delhi. Staff from the police station went to the property, to be confiscated," police reportedly said.

When Kumar poured petrol over him, people tried to rescue him putting out the fire.

Delhi police reportedly started probing the incident after registering a case under section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
