Delhi HC bars Patanjali from airing ads 'disparaging' Dabur Chyawanprash

The Delhi High Court on Thursday restrained Patanjali from airing advertisements deemed disparaging toward Dabur Chyawanprash.
Justice Mini Pushkarna granted an interim injunction in response to a plea by Dabur, which alleged that "Patanjali Special Chyawanprash" was "disparaging DABUR Chyawanprash specifically" and Chyawanprash in general by asserting that "no other manufacturer has the knowledge to prepare Chyawanprash"—a claim constituting generic disparagement.
The petition further stated, "false and misleading statements made in the advertisements (in respect of an ayurvedic drug/medicine), in disparaging comparison with DABUR Chyawanprash."
Advocates Jawahar Lala and Meghna Kumar represented Dabur in the case.
According to the petition, the advertisement also used the prefix "ordinary" for all other Chyawanprash products, implying they were "inferior".
It added that the advertisement made "untrue" claims suggesting other manufacturers lacked knowledge of Ayurvedic texts and the traditional formulae used to prepare Chyawanprash.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for July 14.
