New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday sent Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha to judicial custody till April 23, The Indian Express reported.

K Kavitha, who was arrested in the Delhi excise policy case, was previously on Friday sent to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody till April 15 having been arrested by the agency on April 11.

Advocate Nitesh Rana representing Kavitha argued against sending her to judicial custody claiming no grounds. But the CBI told the court that Kavitha was not responding to them.

The agency said Kavitha said Kavitha “did not co-operate with the investigation and deliberately gave evasive replies contrary to the evidence on record”.

Terming her a very influential person, the CBI said citing ‘credible reasons’ that she may influence witnesses or tamper with evidence, hampering the probe.

However, while leaving the court room, the BRS leader reportedly said it was not ‘CBI custody, but BJP custody’.

Seeking her custody for five days, the CBI on Friday in its remand papers said that the BRS leader “forced” approver Sarath Chandra Reddy to pay Rs 14 crore for a farmland in Telangana and sought to ‘pay Rs 25 crore for five liquor retail zones in Delhi.’

Kavitha is accused of allegedly paying Rs 100 crore to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders in order to obtain liquor licences in Delhi.
