Patna: In Patna’s Nalanda Medical College in Bihar, a dead body’s eye went missing hours after the death of the person. Following this, the family of the man staged a protest inside the hospital premises on Saturday, India Today reported.

The dead person was identified as Fantush, and when the family alleged medical negligence, the hospital authorities claimed that a rat gnawed at the person’s eye.

Police said that Fantush was admitted to the hospital on November 14 after he got shot by unknown assailants. At the hospital, he was subjected to surgery the next day and was shifted to ICU. However, he died at night that day. After that, his body was kept in the ICU bed since the postmortem cannot be performed at night. It was on Saturday morning, 16th of November, his family discovered that his left eye was missing and alleged medical negligence. They also claimed that a surgical blade was found near the table there.

Following the developments, the superintendent of the hospital, Dr Vinod Kumar, said that the hospital had formed a four-member team to probe the matter and promised that action would be taken against the guilty.

He said that someone must have taken the eye out or a rat has gnawed it. He admitted that in both cases, the fault was with them, and further action would be initiated once the investigation was over.

Police said that the CCTV footage in the hospital is being reviewed and that further investigation is being conducted.
