Day after Gov walks out of TN Assembly, posters with #GetOutRavi appear in city

Chennai: A day after Governor RN Ravi walked out of the Assembly on Monday, January 9, posters with the hashtag "#GetOutRavi" started to circulate around Chennai. The poster included images of the Chief Minister MK Stalin, the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development Udhayanidhi Stalin, and other DMK officials. The DMK put up posters thanking everyone who initiated the hashtag "#GetOutRavi" and made it the most popular hashtag.

Stalin and Ravi disagreed after Ravi read his customary address to the Assembly but omitted critical passages from the dossier created by the state government and added new terms that weren't in it. Stalin presented a resolution against Ravi for allegedly breaking Assembly custom by only recognising the material written for the Governor's address as valid. The DMK administration criticised Ravi for choosing to omit three portions of his speech that included Ambedkar, Dravidian leaders, the Dravidian model of governance and the law-and-order situation in Tamil Nadu. The Assembly passed the resolution, and Ravi walked out before the traditional playing of the national anthem to conclude the meeting.

The latest dispute in the months-long conflict between Ravi and the government occurred last week when Ravi suggested that "Thamizhagam" would be a better name than "Tamil Nadu." The events in the Assembly sparked a public outcry, with tweets using the hashtags "#GetOutRavi" and "#GetOutRNRavi" expressing support for Chief Minister MK Stalin and demanding for Governor RN Ravi to resign, and hashtags calling for Ravi to "get out" trending on social media.
