Covid-19 Updates: India records 1,054 new cases, 29 deaths

New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry updated on Sunday that India has recorded 1,054 fresh Covid-19 cases to up the cumulative count to 4,30,35,271. With 29 more deaths, the total reported death count in the country reached 5,21,685 since the pandemic broke out, PTI reported.

However, 21 of the new deaths were from Kerala.

On Sunday, the active case pool went down and reached 11,132, as per the ministry update at 8 am, which accounts for 0.03 per cent of the total cases. A reduction of 233 cases has been recorded in the active case pool in 24 hours. Meanwhile, the national Covid-19 recovery rate reached 98.76 per cent.

The ministry update suggested that the daily positivity stands at 0.25 per cent and weekly positivity at 0.23 per cent. The total number of people who recovered from the disease has reached 4,25,02,454, and the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.21 per cent.

Regarding the nationwide vaccination drive, the total number of doses administered so far passed 185.7 crores.

Out of the 5,21,656 pandemic fatalities reported in the country, 1,47,816 are from Maharashtra, 68,360 from Kerala, 40,057 from Karnataka, 38,025 from Tamil Nadu, 26,156 from Delhi, 23,499 from Uttar Pradesh and 21,200 from West Bengal.

The health ministry reiterated that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities. It said that their fatality figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research. State-wise distribution of the figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation, the ministry said on its website.
