COVID-19: Daily coronavirus positivity rate doubles to 16.69%

The Health Ministry on Sunday informed that the daily coronavirus positivity rate in the country has doubled to 16.69 per cent in the last 12 days, while the weekly positivity rate has increased to 13.54 per cent in the past month.

"The daily positivity rate in the last 12 days has doubled from 8% to 16.69%," the ministry said in a statement. "The national weekly positivity rate has increased from 3.05% to 13.54% in the last one month."

After recording 2,61,500 new Covid positive cases on Sunday, the total number of active cases countrywide is over 18 lakhs. Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan contribute to 78.56 per cent of these cases.

The highest weekly positivity rate of 30.38 per cent was reported in Chhattisgarh, followed by 24.24 in Goa, 24.17 in Maharashtra, 23.33 in Rajasthan and 18.99 in Madhya Pradesh.

Additionally, 1501 deaths were recorded on Sunday, of which 82.94 per cent is contributed by ten states, with Maharashtra recording maximum fatalities at 419 and Delhi second in line after recording 167 deaths. Only Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Meghalaya, Tripura, Sikkim, Mizoram, Manipur, Lakshadweep, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh did not report any COVID-19 deaths.
