Court sends Sanjay Raut to ED custody till August 4
text_fieldsMumbai: A Mumbai special court remanded Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody till August 4 in the money laundering case he is accused of, PTI reported.
The probe agency produced Raut before the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court judge MG Deshpande and sought eight days of remand.
Special public prosecutor Hiten Venegaonkar, representing ED, told the court that Raut and his family were direct beneficiaries of the crime. Meanwhile, Raut's counsel, Senior advocate Ashok Mundargi, argued that the allegations against Raut are vague and out of political vendetta.
Raut was arrested by ED on Sunday midnight on a case of alleged financial irregularities in the redevelopment of a 'chawl' in Mumbai, along with related financial property transactions. The latter involves Raut's wife and associates, according to ED's charges.
