New Delhi: Student protests demanding better infrastructure and basic facilities in government schools are spreading across several states, with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-backed ‘School Theek Karo’ campaign gaining momentum among students of Generation Alpha, born between 2010 and 2024.

The campaign, launched by CJP founder Abhijit Dipke along with spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh, focuses on improving the condition of government schools, particularly in rural areas. Students in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra have taken to the streets over poor infrastructure, teacher shortages and other long-standing problems.

In Lucknow, hundreds of girl students from Sarvodaya School blocked a major road on Monday, demanding teachers and improved hostel facilities. The protest ended only after the district collector arrived and gave assurances on addressing their concerns. The students had staged a similar protest three days earlier, following which Minister Asim Arun had promised action, but returned to the streets after seeing no progress.

In Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh, students marched nearly five kilometres carrying the national flag to the collectorate, highlighting the absence of a proper road to their school. Authorities subsequently said concrete road work would begin soon.

Students in Alwar, Rajasthan, launched an indefinite protest after a school building slab collapsed. In Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh, girl students protested against private school bus operators raising fares from Rs 10 to Rs 25. Authorities intervened and withdrew the increase.

The campaign is gaining wider support as young people share images of deteriorating school facilities on social media, while CJP leaders have begun visiting affected schools and joining protests.
