CJP core panel to meet on Aug 5, decision on political plunge likely

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The online movement Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), led by Gen Z icon Abhijeet Dipke, is set to take a crucial decision on whether to enter politics at its core committee meeting here on August 5, sources said on Sunday.
Dipke is expected to host members of the movement at his home to chalk out the CJP's future strategy, based on feedback collected from supporters across various states, a functionary said.
The CJP functionary said the "successful" protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar over the NEET paper leak issue, which was followed by the resignation of then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, has raised expectations from the Dipke-led outfit.
Sources said Dipke will address a press conference after the August 5 core committee meeting to announce the outcome of the deliberations.
The meeting's agenda has been clearly outlined as a decision on the CJP's future course of action, the functionary said.
Following the conclusion of the Delhi protest, Dipke had indicated in a media interaction that he intended to keep the CJP movement alive as a "response group" to raise issues concerning students and youth.

Reiterating his commitment to peaceful and democratic practices, Dipke has also clarified in recent days that the CJP would neither allow any political party to use the movement as a front to target the government nor itself join any political outfit.
Observers believe the new challenge for Dipke and the CJP will be to sustain movements based on legitimate student grievances while continuing to push for change in the education sector.
Amid allegations that external actors may have played a role in amplifying the CJP's movement, observers said such forces cannot create public discontent where none exists, but may, in certain circumstances, amplify existing grievances and accelerate mobilisation.
The scale and speed of the recent mobilisation, the CJP's extensive social media outreach, the participation of large numbers of young people and the movement's sustained momentum have raised questions in several quarters about whether it represents something larger than a domestic protest.
While the grievances that fuelled the recent anti-paper leak agitation merit serious attention, an analyst said the manner in which the movement expanded reflects a pattern that has become increasingly visible in protest movements worldwide over the past two decades.
