After ‘generation gutter’ slur, Kangana sends love message to Gen Z

New Delhi: Days after triggering a nationwide backlash by branding protesting students as "Generation Gutter," actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut struck a markedly different tone, extending Friendship Day wishes to her "Gen Z friends" through social media.
Sharing an Instagram Story, Ranaut recounted a conversation with two Gen Z women she met at a gym. Referring to a generation shaped by social media, artificial intelligence and dating apps, she said the discussion centred on the desire to live freely. She added that freedom must be accompanied by responsibility and ended the post with a message wishing her Gen Z friends peace on Friendship Day.
The post came soon after her controversial remarks targeting students protesting alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination under the banner of the Cockroach Janata Party. In earlier videos and posts, Ranaut described the protesters in derogatory terms, questioned their upbringing, and labelled a section of the youth as "Generation Gutter," accusing them of glorifying drugs, alcohol and promiscuity. She also mocked the student movement by comparing its members to cockroaches and accused them of spreading filth.
Ranaut further criticised westernised Indian women, alleging they seek the rights associated with independence without accepting corresponding responsibilities.
Her remarks also defended violence against students accused of damaging public property, invoking Newton's third law to justify retaliation.
The statements have sparked widespread outrage, drawing sharp criticism from student organisations and social media users across the country.
