Amravati: Chief Justice of India B R Gavai on Saturday reiterated that he will not accept any government position after his retirement, stating that he intends to focus on arbitration and consultation work instead.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Late T R Gilda Memorial E-Library at the Amravati District and Sessions Court in Maharashtra, CJI Gavai said, “I have declared this on several occasions in the past that I will not accept any government position after November 24. I will do consultation and arbitration.”

Justice Gavai, who is scheduled to demit office on November 23, made his remarks during a visit to his native Amravati district.

On Friday, the CJI also visited Darapur village, where he paid tribute at the memorial of his late father, R S Gavai, who had served as Governor of Kerala and Bihar. Accompanied by his family, Justice Gavai attended the death anniversary programme held in honour of his father, who was fondly known as Dadasaheb Gavai.

During the visit, he also laid the foundation stone for a grand entrance gate on the road leading to Darapur village. The gate will be named after R S Gavai, commemorating his contributions to public life.
