The National Commission for Scheduled Castes chairperson Vijay Sampla on Friday demanded a preliminary report from the Haryana police on the lynching of Lakhbir Singh at a farmers' protest venue at Kundli near the Delhi-Haryana border within 24 hours. He also asked the police to take strict action against those behind the gruesome incident.

Singh, belonging to the Scheduled Caste community, was lynched, his hand chopped off and the body tied to a metal barricade. The incident is blamed on a group of Nihangs.

The video clip of the incident had gone viral on social media. A few Nihangs are seen standing next to the bleeding man on the ground with his chopped off hand beside and saying that the man has been punished for desecrating Sarbloh Granth, a holy book of the Sikhs.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) said that a group of Nihangs has claimed responsibility for the incident. The SKM is an umbrella body of farmer unions spearheading the farmers' protests against the three controversial farm laws at Delhi's borders.
