Kolkata: In relation to the cash-for-query case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday raided a number of places in Kolkata connected to the expelled MP Mahua Moitra and the leader of the Trinamool Congress.

On December 8, the Lok Sabha's Ethics Committee declared that Moitra, a member from West Bengal's Krishnanagar seat, had engaged in "unethical conduct" and had committed "serious misdemeanours," leading to her expulsion from the legislature. It was alleged that she had asked questions in Parliament in return for gifts and money from businessman Darshan Hiranandani, Indian Express reported.

“Teams are carrying out searches at various locations, including one in the Alipore area related to Mahua Moitra,” an official said.

Local reports claim that early on Saturday, a CBI team visited the "Ratnavali" building in Alipore. D N Moitra, Mahua's father, resides in a ninth-floor flat.

Earlier this week, the Lokpal had requested that the CBI look into the accusations against Moitra and provide a report in six months.

Moitra has been granted permission by the TMC to run in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Krishnanagar seat once more.
