BJP will gain ‘huge victory’ in South India: Amit Shah claims
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has claimed that the BJP will pull off ‘huge victory’ in South India where the saffron party has long been struggling to gain traction.
"We are moving to a big victory in the four southern states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu," Shah told NDTV.
In the last polls, the party won 29 seats of the total 109 seats in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu. In Karnataka the BJP won 25 seats and four from Telangana but failed to make any impact in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, according to the report.
This time round the party banks on Kerala as well, where the ruling LDF and Opposition UDF are the traditional rivals in 20 Lok Sabha seats.
The BJP earlier set target of winning 370+ seats and a total of 400 plus seats including the seats of its alliance partners.
The party hopes to win most of the seats from states including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Gujarat.
In 2019 the BJP won over 190 seats from these states and in order to repeat the numbers the party has to gain similar result this time too.
The BJP is hoping to gain traction in South India though it has not any strong alliance there.
In Tamil Nadu the party has earlier parted ways with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
As part of carrying out intense campaign in the Southern states, PM Modi visited over dozen times Kerala and Tamil Nadu alone this year.
Earlier Shah told news agency ANI that "We will get more seats than Congress in the five states in South India."
