BJP on the spot!! Screenshots of Nirmala's own post using ரூ out!!
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The BJP, which criticised Tamil Nadu’s MK Stalin administration for replacing the official rupee symbol (₹) with the Tamil letter ரூ in the logo prepared by the DMK government ahead of the 2025-26 state budget, got slammed. BJP leader and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had accused the Stalin government of promoting separatist sentiments under the guise of regionalism for removing the rupee symbol. However, screenshots of Nirmala Sitharaman herself using the rupee symbol in social media posts have surfaced. Journalist and cofounder of Alt News, Mohammed Zubair shared screenshots of her post in 2017 using the Tamil rupee symbol several times.

Screenshots of not only Nirmala but also those of posts by BJP state president Annamalai, who also used the ரூ symbol of the rupee on social media posts in the past but questioned Stalin government alleging how it had insulted the national symbol of the rupee and asked how could it be so stupid, are circulating.
Screenshots of Annamalai using the ரூ symbol in several tweets in 2023 and last year have emerged. With this, the BJP itself, which criticised the DMK government, put themselves on the spot.
While the dispute with the Centre continued over the decision to make Hindi an official language, Tamil Nadu sparked another controversy the other day. The official symbol of the rupee was replaced with the Tamil letter ரூ. Stalin released the budget logo along with the hashtags Dravidian model and TN Budget 2025.
