Agartala: BJP leader Manik Saha met with Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya on Monday to stake a claim on forming the government of Tripura.

In the morning, he was elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party and the next chief minister. A spokesperson of the party said that the selection was unanimously endorsed by all MLAs. Saha was also the CM last year. There was speculation that the position may go to Union minister Pratima Bhowmik.

The swearing-in ceremony will be on March 8. BJP national president JP Nadda, Chief Ministers of several BJP-ruled states, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are expected to attend.

In the recent election, the BJP won 32 out of 60 seats. Its ally- Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) - won one seat.

Assam Chief Minister and NEDA head Himanta Biswa Darma visited Tripura on Sunday to meet with senior party colleagues to discuss the formation of the next cabinet. He had also met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Sunday over the same matter.
