Ayodhya: Samajwadi Party candidate Awadhesh Prasad, who was elected from the crucial Lok Sabha constituency of Faizabad where Ayodhya and the Ram Temple are located, told The Indian Express (TIE) that BJP was cheating the people of India in the of Lord Ram, but was doing business out of the diety.

Being the candidate from Ayodhya, Awadhesh, who is also from the Dalit community, garnered a lot of attention from all over the country. He said that when the BJP claimed that they ‘brought back Ram’, they were cheating voters. Narendra Modi’s party allowed inflation, created unemployment, and uprooted the poor and farmers in the name of Lord Ram.

BJP was working towards destroying the dignity of the lord, and people understood this, the elected candidate said.

Awadesh is from the Pasi community and is the only Dalit candidate to win from an unreserved constituency.

Awadhesh said that the LS polls in 2024 were an election where the public took matters into their own hands. He believes that voters had faith in him and did not bother with his caste, which played the biggest role in his win. He continued that Lallu Singh did damage to himself when he said BJP needed 400 seats to change the Constitution. He shouldn’t have said that since people didn’t like that, Awadhesh told The Indian Express.

Awadhesh, who does not wish to be known as the representative of the Dalit community but all sections of people of the constituency he represents, said that the victory is not his but the people of Ayodhya.

“This is not my victory, this is the victory of the great people of Ayodhya… Awadhesh Prasad will consider it his victory when he lives up to what he promised,” TIE quoted the leader.
