Bengaluru: A Congress leader from Karnataka, Nayana Motamma, faced online slander attacks from Facebook and WhatsApp accounts of those associated with BJP after her victory in the recent Assembly elections, The News Minute reports.

Attackers shared visuals of her wearing dresses other than a saree and having leisure. She questioned whether she could not do her job if she was wearing a certain kind of clothing, implying that what to wear is her personal right.

A law graduate from the University of Pennsylvania, Motamma contested the Mudigere seat, a Scheduled Castes-reserved seat. She said that a day after the elections on May 10 and after the results were declared, online appeared on BJP-affiliated social media handles. They shared visuals from her personal life in an attempt to malign her in public.

However, Motamma responded strongly by herself, sharing some of the visuals circulated by them. In those visuals, she was wearing dresses, athleisure and other attire against the sarees she wore at campaign sessions. She was seen having leisure with her husband and friends. Some visuals feature her in swimming pools, others having liquor bottles lying around etc. The visuals in question were previously shared on social media by herself.

She said that those who shared visuals were attempting to state that she was not the woman she actually pretended to be while doing the election campaign, calling it a slander campaign.

She lodged a complaint with the police, and after that, BJP Shivamogga's Facebook page took down the visuals.

In her daring act to share her own visuals that were used against her, she juxtaposed clippings from her campaigns along with the visuals in question. She addressed those miscreants that don't let the frustration of defeat haunt them. Yes...politics, me, myself, and my personal life is the answer for those fools who don't know the difference," TNM quoted her.

She said that her personal life and political life never get mixed at any point, and she doesn't hide anything but show people how she lives. She asserted that she is not going to take these attacks "lying down".
