Biodiversity Day: Union minister opens Biodiversity exhibition
text_fieldsChennai: On the occasion of the International Day of Biological Diversity (IDB), Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate change Bhupendra Yadav inaugurated a Biological Diversity Exhibition here at Kalaivanar Arangam on Sunday, Asian News International reported.
Sharing pictures from the event, the minister wrote on Twitter that when farmers know the potential of their land, they use fewer chemicals and also increase productivity, which is very important for biodiversity.
Bio-Diversity Boards of many states, including Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Gujarat, exhibited their products in the exhibition.
In the inaugural event, the minister announced the Indian biodiversity awards and winners from the national competition held bub the National Biodiversity Authority on May 5. He also launched the fourth cycle of biodiversity Samrakshan internship Programme, along with releasing a special cover by the Indian Post on IDB 2022.
Those who attended the event include Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Tamil Nadu Environment Minister V. Meyyanathan, the Resident Representative of UNDP-India, the Secretary to the MoEFCC and other Senior officials also participated in the event.
Also, dignitaries, chairpersons and member secretaries of the 28 State Biodiversity Boards and 8 Union Territory Biodiversity Councils, Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) members and representatives from stakeholder organizations from different parts of the country attended the event.
The United Nations had declared May 22 as International Day of Biodiversity, aiming to spread understanding as well as awareness about the challenges biodiversity faces worldwide. This year's theme for the day is "Building a shared future for all life".
