New Delhi: Kerala's governing CPI (M) alleged 'a bomb attack' on its state headquarters after man on a motorbike hurled an explosive at AK Gopalan Centre in the state capital around 11.30 pm last night.

The incident sparked war of words between CPI (M) and opposition Congress as the "bomb attack" was reported days after the communist party's student activists had vandalised MP Rahul Gandhi's office in Wayanad.

Both the parties are trading bars over the attack on Gandhi's office when a seemingly counter attack took place. Rahul Gandhi will be visiting Kerala today, according to NDTV.

The CCTV footage from CPI (M) headquarters sourced by news agency ANI showed a man on a scooter throwing an explosive substance at the AK Gopalan Centre, hitting its wall.

CPI(M) leaders staying there said they heard a powerful blast. The police and the bomb squads carried out an inspection of the premises.

LDF convener E P Jayarajan blamed the attack on the Congress and appealed to his party workers to remain calm.

CPI(M) workers took out a protest march in Thiruvananthapuram. Police have tightened security near the offices of the Congress.

Calling for peaceful protest, CPI (M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan accused the Congress-led UDF of creating provocation.

The opposition Congress, however, rejected the allegations.
